Rainforest Bagu, fibreglass, steel armature, 2018

ARTISTS: Clarence Kinjun, Debra Murray, Emily Murray, Nephi Denham, Philip Denham, Sally Murray, John Murray, Eileen Tep & Melanie Muriata, Girringun Aboriginal Arts Centre

These sculptures are based on the traditional fire making implements of the Girringun rainforest Aboriginal people. Traditionally, the firesticks were made up of two parts, the Bagu (body) and Jiman (sticks) made from clay, timber, string and other materials to evoke the spirit of the old people, and painted with ochres found in deposits along the banks of creeks and rivers. Commissioned by Cairns Regional Council following Cairns Indigenous Art Fair, July 2017.

LOCATION: Outside entrance to CPAC, Florence Street (adjacent to Munro Martin Parklands)
