Gazir Lagoon

Gazir Lagoon is a favourite place for the artists of Erub Island who collaborated on this artwork. They go there to catch white fish, pick shells and swim. Ghost nets are an unwelcome pollution of the sea, but can also be gathered and made into artworks such as this. This piece was commissioned especially for the foyer of the Cairns Performing Arts Centre by Cairns Regional Council following Cairns Indigenous Art Fair, July 2017.
